Buyer's Guide: Limousine Services

How are you getting to your wedding? The last thing you need to worry about is getting around on your special day. Limousine services are available to calm any concerns, ye there are a few things to consider before deciding on a limo provider.

Pay them a visit

Whenever possible, visit the limo service before making a deal to rent from them. Consider the following:
  • Visit the limousine service early on a Saturday or Sunday morning. You may have the possibility of seeing some limos prepared before a wedding. You can get an idea of the inner conditions of the vehicle and how it drives.
  • The thought of older models can be attractive, but be aware of the wear time may take on them.
  • See their full listing of available limos. You may have something in mind, but can be intrigued by something different if given the opportunity.
  • Don't be satisfied by looking at the exterior of the models. Take the time to sit in the limos so you can assess their level of comfort.
  • Be wary of limo services that rent cars from other sources. It is better to deal with a service that owns their cars. If they are renting from another service, then that means there is another entity involved in the chain, raising the likelihood that there could be a mishap.
Choosing a package

You can work out a deal with the limo service regarding the number of vehicles needed. One vehicle for the bride and a separate one for the bridal party is the most conventional combination. Let the limousine provider know the intended route. If houses, the place of the ceremony, and the reception are all close, then expect to pay less.

When to start looking

Give yourself a four to eight month cushion to reserve the limousine service. Start by getting three to five candidates. Give them a call and see what models and packages they have available. Visit them onsite to get a better view of the vehicles and a feel for the provider's customer service. Make sure you have a written contract devised and signed months before your wedding day.

Tips and suggestions

  • Call the limousine provider one week before the wedding day to confirm pickup times and the understanding of routes. It would be best to fax over written directions for the limo driver.
  • Keep an extra set of directions with you for the driver on the wedding day. Use this as an "extra precaution" in case you happen to get a different driver than expected.
  • Find out if they are using their cars or contracting out for other vehicles the day of your wedding.
  • Don't factor the limousine service into your budget until you have a contract in writing.
  • Don't assume champagne or other beverages are included in the price or available at all. Inquire about what "extras" go along with the ride.
  • Things can run longer than expected. Be clear about what extra fees may be in the event you need to use their services for longer than originally planned.
  • Attempt to get the owner of the limousine service to be your driver. This ensures the best possible service from their company.
  • Exercise your choices. Be sure to talk with at least three different limousine providers before making your final decision.
